Moderne by Alex Banks
A word from Alex:
For Moderne, I was inspired by the streamliners of the late 40s and current day products like the Kitchenaid mixer. Their use of smooth lines combined with minimal exterior fussiness felt like a really interesting idea for a small device. The case itself is designed with 3D SLS nylon printing in mind given the short build timeframe. To create the smooth look, I've repositioned all the front facing ports to face the back using extenders. The power button too will be an inductive proximity sensor positioned on the side, the idea being you simply stroke the side to turn the device on.
Two small windows on either side made from smoked acrylic (or mirrored potentially) will provide a glimpse at the electronics inside, whilst keeping things neat and within the style. The base is hollowed so that it can be weighted with a steel plate, this should help to keep everything stable once all the cables are plugged in. As the main detail, the front and top will feature a continuous strip of brushed aluminium that will contrast with the painted exterior. Ventilation is provided via vents in the base of the centre section.
